Pre-Optometry (B.S. Biology)
Pre-professional requirements for admission to most schools (see Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry for a list of prerequisetes from all schools.
  • 8 hours of biology or zoology with labs
  • genetics
  • 8 hours of general chemistry with labs
  • 4 hours of organic chemistry with lab
  • 4 hours of biochemistry with lab
  • 8 hours of physics with labs
  • 3 hours of statistic
  • 3-6 hours of Psychology
  • 3 hours of calculus
  • 4 hours of Microbiology

    90 hour minimum in an accredited liberal art and sciences college is required; completion of an college major and undergraduate degree is strongly recommend

Nebraska stduents must obtain a Contractual Seat and:
  • Pay resident tuition (balance paid by State of Nebraska)
  • Apply to school and indicate that you want a contractual seat
  • Contact Delmer Esters, UNL Admissions, 472-2023 for NE residency confirmation
  • There are 15 contractual seats / year, they are competitive, and the optometry school tells the State of Nebraska
    who the top candidates are (based on their individual criteria such as GPA, etc.)
If the student plans on attending a specific school OR wants to be sure that all schools are available to them, it is advised that he/she look at the specific requirements of each school either at the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, and review each college requirments.
